Mission
The Goodman Emotion and Resilience Lab is dedicated to fostering social connection and resilience. We embrace the idea that adversity is a fundamental human experience, but a person’s response to adversity is malleable and trainable. The lab explores different ways of coping that can reduce suffering.
Values
-
The best science is team science. We are highly collaborative within and outside our lab. We collaborate with psychologists worldwide, as well researchers in public health, social psychology, and epidemiology.
-
Science should be transparent and accessible. We publicly post data, analytic code, and research materials; preregister our research studies, and post manuscript preprints to the Open Science Framework (OSF) website.
-
High-impact research should be mutually beneficial to researchers and participants. We foster collaborative relationships with community partners, personally engage with study participants, and create personalized resources for participants.
-
Measurement is the foundation of any scientific field. We use smartphone technologies that capture life as it is lived (e.g., ecological momentary assessment [EMA]). We also design accessible measures of hard-to-measure constructs such as social anxiety, resilience, and psychological flexibility.
